IHIT deployed after body found at explosion site

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been deployed to Langley after a body was located inside the scene of an explosion. 

Background:

On October 22, 2023 at approximately 2:17 p.m., the Langley RCMP responded to the scene of an explosion at a residence in the 24300-block of 8 Avenue, Langley, BC. The responding members located an outbuilding on fire at the rural property which was extinguished by the Township of Langley Fire Department. During the processing of the scene, fire fighters located human remains inside the outbuilding. In consultation with the BC Coroners Service, IHIT took conduct of the investigation. IHIT continues to work closely in partnership with the Langley RCMP Detachment, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS). 

We are still in the early stages of our investigation. We are working with the Langley RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit and Arson Unit to advance what’s now become a homicide investigation, says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. Our investigators will continue to be in the area throughout the upcoming days, canvassing for witnesses and for residential CCTV footage. If you have information and have yet to speak with police, please contact the IHIT or the Langley RCMP immediately.

IHIT is asking anyone who was driving in the 24300-block of 8 Avenue between noon and 2:30 p.m. on October 22, 2023, with dash-camera video, or anyone with information to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
