Two vehicle collisions
Two reports of two-vehicle collisions in parking lots were received by the Kitimat RCMP on November 28th. The first collision at 10:00 am had officers attend a parking lot on the 100 block of City Centre and found that one vehicle had backed into another causing damage to a door. At 1:15 pm, a driver attended the detachment to report a second collision on the 500 block of Mountainview square. It was found that a vehicle had backed into another one in this instance as well. There we no injuries reported in either collision and both drivers of the vehicles backing up received a violation ticket for ‘Reverse when unsafe’ under the Motor Vehicle Act. (2024-4292) (2024-4295)
Intoxicated in public
On November 30th, at 12:40 am, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of two males causing a disturbance on the 100 block of City Centre. It was found that both males were intoxicated and unable to care for themselves. As such, they were both arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public. One of the males appeared to have an injury from falling, and was taken to a local hospital for observation. The other male was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cell block until he was able to care for himself. Both males received a violation ticket for being intoxicated in public under the Liquor Control Licensing Act. (2024-4321)
Towed vehicles
The Kitimat RCMP received two separate reports of stolen vehicles in the early morning hours of November 30th. The investigating officers were able to confirm that both vehicles had been towed as they were parked in a manner that was impeding snow removal operations. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers of the snow clearing bylaw which reads No parking on any street, highway or lane between the hours of two o'clock in the forenoon and seven o'clock in the forenoon, between the first day of October in any year and the 31st day of March next ensuing, or whenever parking impedes snow clearing
Please visit the District of Kitimat Snow Clearing web page for more information on this bylaw and others that may affect you during the winter months. (2024-4324 2024-4325)
Light up Kitimat
The Kitimat RCMP had the privilege to participate with the Light up Kitimat festivities during the evening of December 1st at the Upper City Centre Mall parking lot. A police vehicle was adorned with festive lights and candy canes were handed out. The RCMP also had the honor of getting Santa Claus back to his sleigh after he was finished with his appearance.
Driving complaint
The manner in which a vehicle was being driven along the Kitamaat Village road on December 3rd at approximately 2:50 pm caught the attention and concern of another motorist. As such the Kitimat RCMP was advised and a description of the vehicle was provided, allowing the investigating officer to locate the vehicle a short time later, in the downtown Kitimat area. A traffic stop was initialed and the driver stated they had attempted to avoid driving over pot holes on their drive into town, which may have caught the attention of the other driver. The driver was spoken to and allowed to proceed. (2024-4363)
