On Saturday May 18th 2024 the Prince Rupert RCMP participated in the National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, a bi-annual event participated by police agencies across Canada.
The May long weekend, historically, has increased traffic and partying as the weather begins to warm up around the country. During the day of enforcement the Prince Rupert RCMP performed Mandatory Breath Samples for all drivers they interacted with and also set up check stops for sobriety.
Overall the night was a success, Media Relations Officer Cst. Brody Hemrich said, While the four impaired drivers that were taken off the road are still too many, it was good to see other larger functions in town have designated driver programs set up to ensure everyone’s safety.
Collisions involving drugs, alcohol or a combination of the two are the leading criminal cause for death in Canada. When you plan on drinking or using drugs, plan ahead and don’t drive.
To report impaired driving please call the Prince Rupert RCMP at 250-624-2136 in case of an emergency call 9-1-1.
