On May 3rd, at approximately 5:56 p.m., Powell River RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 6400 block of King Avenue, Powell River, BC.

Members of the Powell River RCMP initially responded to the incident and after speaking to witnesses, determined that a suspect was barricaded inside the residence and had access to firearms inside.  In order to ensure the safety of the public and police, the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team attended the scene to assist with the arrest of the suspect and execution of a search warrant at the residence.

Evidence was located in the residence and a 55-year-old male from Powell River was arrested. He is currently facing charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition and careless storage of a firearm. The male was released from custody on numerous conditions by a Judicial Justice of the Peace and will be appearing in court again at a later date.
