A 40-year-old man has been found guilty of three counts of break and enter stemming from three commercial break and enters which occurred in 2022.

Between April 27, 2022 and October 4, 2022 three businesses located within the town of Smithers were broken into, each sustained various level of damage and property stolen from the businesses.

Smithers RCMP General Duty investigators assumed conduct of three investigations, ultimately identifying a single individual as being responsible for all three break and enters.

On November 1, 2022, BC Prosecution Services approved a charge of break enter and commit against David Allan Schmidt in relation to one of the investigations.

On August 18, 2023, BC Prosecution Services approved seven charges were against David Schmidt in relation to the other two investigations.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, David Schmidt was found guilty on three counts of Break enter and commit, contrary to Sec. 348(1)(b) CC.
