Kitimat RCMP weekly report January 11th - January 17th 2024

Two vehicle collision:

During the late morning of January 11th, the Kitimat RCMP received several calls of a two-vehicle collision on Haisla Blvd. The investigation Kitimat RCMP officers attended the scene, and found that one of the vehicles had not stayed to exchange the necessary information as required. The driver did attend the Kitimat RCMP detachment shortly after, but received a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of the accident. (2024-127)

Hit and run:

A hit and run was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on January 11th. It was reported that while travelling north on Highway 37, a vehicle had clipped the mirror of the vehicle while travelling in the opposite direction. A description of the offending vehicle was provided, however after extensive patrols, the vehicle was not located. (2024-134)

Possible attempt fraud:

On January 12th, the Kitimat RCMP was advised of a possible attempted fraud. It was reported that a local business person had been contacted for a service. A cheque was received through a courier, however for an amount much greater then the cost of the service, which seemed suspicious. The cheque was not cashed and turned into the Kitimat RCMP Detachment. If you feel there is something suspicious with a business deal, do not complete it and never cash a cheque for someone who expects you to give them the remaining monies back. Intoxicated in public:

The Kitimat RCMP were called to a residence in the Kildala neighbourhood for a suspicious occurrence on January 13th. The investigating Kitimat RCMP officers attended and located an intoxicated female. The female was arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public, and released to the care of a roommate, after receiving a violation ticket under the Liquor control Licencing act for being intoxicated in a public place. Cold elderly assist:

During the chilly morning hours of January 13th, a Kitimat RCMP officer, out on morning patrols, came across an elderly citizen that appeared to be struggling with their walker on South Lahakas Blvd. The officer assisted the elder get across the roadway and to a near by business. It was explained that the person had left their residence about 50 minutes earlier, but was having issues in the snow and cold. A warm escort home was offered and gratefully accepted. (2024-156)

Bank fraud text:

A report of a fraud through a text message was received by the Kitimat RCMP on January 15th. It was reported that a text message, that included a link to log into a personal bank account was provided with a mention to possible banking issues. The victim clicked onto the link, logged into their bank account, then was notified that an e-transfer was competed that they had not authorized. A file number and information to report the incident to the Canadian Antifraud Centre was provided. (2023-186)

Hit and Run:

On January 16th, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a hit and run on the 500 block of Mountainview square. It was reported that the owner of the vehicle had come out of a business and noticed damage to the driver side of the vehicle. The investigation into this hit and run is still ongoing. (2024-203) A second hit and run was reported to the Kitimat RCMP later in the day. This occurrence was reported to have occurred in a residential apartment parking lot in the Whitesail neighbourhood. A vehicle appeared to have been struck while parked, causing damages to the back left bumper. (2024-205)

Mischief to vehicle:

A report of a rear window of a vehicle being smashed while parked at residence in the Kildala neighbourhood over night was received by the Kitimat RCMP Detachment on the morning of January 17th. The damage is believed to have occurred between 10:00 pm and 4:30 am. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. (2024-219)
