Local youth arrested for Assault with a Weapon

On December 5, 2023 at approximately 7pm, the Powell River RCMP responded to a report of an Assault with a Weapon outside the Town Centre Mall near the bus loop.

Officers spoke to several witnesses who reported that a group of youth were standing outside the mall at the bus loop when a male youth, dressed all in black, chased after another youth and bear sprayed him.

The suspect was identified by witnesses and was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and held in custody.

Stolen vehicle found

A 2001, white, two door, Pontiac Sunfire that was stolen from the driveway of a residence located in the 4200 block of Joyce Ave. has been found.

Powell River RCMP observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen Sunfire, was parked in a lot south of town.

Police attended and located two suspects inside the vehicle. The suspects were arrested for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 and released to appear in Provincial Court.

Harassing behaviour results in multiple traffic violation tickets

On December 5, 2023, Powell River RCMP received a report that a local man had been harassing a business owner by driving by and honking his horn excessively, and by driving erratically near his business.

The driver was identified by the business owner who was known to him. The driver was issued violation tickets for; Drive Without Due Care and Attention, Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Unnecessary Noise, contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act.
