Files of note:

Check well being

On August 15th, Quadra RCMP received a report from the Quadra Elementary school advising that there was a female sleeping in the back field. Staff at that location were worried about her well being. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the women. The women was cooperative and advised she was just sleeping a bit before moving to another location. Officers advised her to not pass out in a schoolyard as children would be there soon, to which she stated she understood. Staff updated and told to contact officers should the woman return.

Theft of boat

On August 16th, Quadra RCMP received a report of a theft of a boat at the village Bay Lakes area. The complainant advised that sometime during the beginning of July, their red, 12 foot aluminum boat, was stolen. The matter is still under investigation.

Facebook fraud file

On August 16th, Quadra RCMP received a report of a fraud file that occurred over Facebook. The complainant stated that she saw her Facebook friend post a link to some very discounted Taylor Swift tickets. The complainant knew this friend personally and believed the link was real. The complainant tagged her cousin on Facebook as her cousin was a big Taylor Swift fan. Soon after, the complainant was advised that her cousin had sent the money but still hadn't received the ticket. Further investigation revealed that the friend's Facebook page had been hacked and some unknown person was behind the scam. The complainant, when she discovered her friend's Facebook had been hacked, reimbursed her cousin for the missing money out of her own pocket.

The Quadra RCMP are reminding the public to protect their online accounts from fraud and data breaches by creating a strong password, enabling multi- factor authentication, and to not reveal personal information over social media. Be very suspicious of messages over social media that seem odd or out of place, or are asking for money (even if the message appears to be from a family member). And lastly, if it is too good to be true, it probably is. Lastly, victims of fraud are asked to report their incident to the Canadian Anti Fraud at 1-888-495-8501.

Suspicious circumstances

In the late evening of August 16th, Quadra RCMP received a report of a possible car accident and shots heard. The concerned complainant advised that they could hear a vehicle go into the ditch in front of their house and then heard what was possibly shots fired. The complainant was unable to see anything as they had a very long driveway. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with two men who advised their vehicle had not crashed, but they were carrying wood on top of their van when one of the straps failed causing the wood to fall all over the road (accounting for the crash the complainant heard). The two men had grabbed all the wood and were putting it back on the van, however, the wood kept banging releasing a sharp noise that might sound like a gunshot. Both men were extremely cooperative if a bit embarrassed with police attendance. The complainant was updated and very relieved that the incident was harmless in nature.

Driving complaints

On August 17th, Ferry staff employees reported a driver that was known to drive while prohibited leaving the ferry. Officers located the vehicle soon after. The driver was not prohibited, but his vehicle and driver license were both expired. A ticket of driving without insurance ($598) and no driver's license ($276) were both issued to the driver who was also the registered owner.
