No lights, not so bright

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 11:35 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when he observed a 21-year-old Rossland man driving red 2003 Toyota Matrix allegedly without any driving lights on Spokane Street, in Rossland, BC. The officer detained the man and his vehicle roadside.

The officer made observations that led him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into an investigation. A demand was read to the man, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.

The 21-year-old Rossland man was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded for a period of at minimum of 30-days.

Single motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian

On Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11:54 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and EHS responded to a 66-year-old Vanderhoof woman struck by a vehicle in the 500 block of Rossland Avenue, in Trail, BC. The woman allegedly crossed Rossland Avenue outside the area designated for a crosswalk when the vehicle collided with her. The woman sustained life-threatening injuries. EHS transported the woman to the hospital. She remains in critical condition.

The matter was capture on video surveillance cameras and remains under investigation.
We hope that the woman recovers from her injuries and makes a full recovery. Says Sgt. Wicentowich

A little birdy told me

On Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 4:02 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report of an alleged break, enter, and theft from a business in the 1900 block of Main Street, in Fruitvale, BC.

At 3:41 a.m. a suspect used a rock to smashed out a window to the front door to enter the building. Once inside the suspect stole several beverages from inside the building before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The incident was captured on video surveillance. RCMP Forensic Identification Section was requested to conduct an examination of the scene.

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 1:46 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to an alarm at a business located in the 1400 block of Highway 3B, near Fruitvale, BC. The officers located a 35-year-old Trail man sitting inside an alleged stolen vehicle parked outside of the business. The officers arrested the man without incident. Officers believed that the vehicle was the same one in used during the course of the break, enter, and theft to the business in Fruitvale. Officers seized evidence that they believed linked these two offences.

Officers conducted an examination of the business with the attending property representative. It was discovered that a bird has made its way into the building and set off the alarm. No forced entry was located or items stolen from inside the business.

The officer informed the man that a bird had reported him to the police.

The police have often relied on stool pigeons’ to report on crime. Says Sgt. Wicentowich

Montrose shed fire

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 9:44 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers and Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to a report about a fire in a detached shed located in the 900 block of 7th Street, in Montrose, BC. The fire was noticed by one of the children who lived in a residence on the same property who reported it to her mother. Her mother then contacted authorities.

The fire is not considered suspicious at this time.

We would like to praise the young girl for reporting the fire and bringing the matter to a safe conclusion. Her quick action prevented the fire from spreading and causing further damage to other structures. Says Sgt. Wicentowich

Homeowner digs up a bone in his yard

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 9:49 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a bone discovered in a yard in the 900 block of Nelson Avenue, in Trail, BC. A homeowner discovered the bone while digging a hole in his yard. An officer took photographs of the bone. The photographs were sent to a forensic anthropologist who confirmed it was non-human.
We would like to thank the homeowner for notifying us about the bone. Trail RCMP was happy to confirm it was non-human. Say Sgt. Wicentowich

Motorcycle flees from Trail RCMP officer

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 3:35 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when she spotted a man riding a riding a blue Yamaha motorcycle bearing British Columbia licence plate Z87603 westbound on Victoria Street Bridge, in Trail, BC. The officer discovered that the motorcycle was allegedly uninsured. The officer attempted to detain the rider and motorcycle roadside but it fled from the officer. The man and the motorcycle were last seen weaving in and out of traffic on Rossland Avenue toward Warfield.
The man is described as Caucasian with a blond ponytail, blond beard, and wearing a skull cap motorcycle helmet, sleeveless shirt, shorts, and riding a blue Yamaha motorcycle bearing British Columbia licence plate Z87603.

The officer discovered that the motorcycle was recently sold to a man named Glen.

Motor vehicle incidents leads to impaired driving investigation

On July 16, 2023, at 3:59 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a two-motor vehicle incident near the intersection of Highway 3B and Highway 22A, in Trail, BC. A 52-year-old Fruitvale man driving a 2009 Chevrolet Impala allegedly sideswiped a 28-yeard-old Chilliwack woman driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Delica after veering into wrong lane. Both parties stopped to exchange information and request for police to attend the scene.
