On June 7, 2023, Creston RCMP assisted in a swift water rescue on the Goat River in Creston. Two people were swimming in the river and got swept away in the high, swift water into rapids.
Creston Fire Rescue, Canyon-Lister Fire Rescue and Search and Rescue were deployed to assist in the rescue. The swimmers were retrieved from the area by the Fire Rescue along the shoreline.
BC Emergency Health Services provided care for the swimmers once they were out of the water, and they were taken to the hospital for assessment.
Creston RCMP has engaged our local Victim Services Unit to assist the swimmers and their families.
It was a great response by frontline officers, who utilized excellent communication skills to keep the parties calm prior to extraction,
said Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Buliziuk, It was a great collaborative approach by all the first responder agencies.
