Quesnel RCMP arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of breaking into several vehicles in Quesnel.

On May 16, 2023, after reviewing several videos posted on local social media pages, Quesnel RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit along with the General Investigations Section entered into an investigation into a man who had committed several thefts from vehicles during the night time hours over the preceding month. Police were able to identify the man in the videos as a repeat offender, who was known to the Quesnel RCMP.

The man was subsequently arrested and found in possession of several stolen bank cards. Charges of possession of stolen property and failing to comply with conditions have been laid against Gordon Pagens, who remains in custody awaiting further court appearances. The results of the investigation have been sent to the BC Prosecution Services for assessment and other charges may be forthcoming.

During the course of the investigation, police learned that the majority of the victims did not report any of the thefts, or frauds to the RCMP.

If you are the victim of property crime, please make sure you report it to police, says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch. Even if the theft is minor in nature, the reports help police to be able to tie other crimes in the area together to solve these ongoing issues. If you or someone you know have video of offences occurring in your neighbourhood, please share them with police as they can help in identifying suspects.

Quesnel RCMP want to remind everyone to make sure they do not leave valuable items in their vehicles and lock your vehicle doors. We also want to remind everyone of the option to report some of these offences on-line at http://report.rcmp.ca.
