On March 22, 2023 the Dawson Creek RCMP issued a news release regarding two similar robberies with ties to a dating app. In both cases, the victims met a person online, arranged to meet up with an individual and was then robbed by the suspect and an accomplice. See original release;2023-03-22

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, another robbery, with the same fact pattern was reported to the police. Dawson Creek RCMP can confirm that all three robberies came about after the victims all used the same dating app, Grindr.

It appears that people are specifically targeted through this particular dating app and police believe there may be more victims of similar robberies. This is a very target specific group and victims may be very reluctant to report said Cpl Graham Hartl, Dawson Creek RCMP.

If meeting after using a dating app or any other online sites, the Dawson Creek RCMP suggests meeting in a safe neutral public space prior to meeting a stranger in a private location.

If you have been a victim or know someone who has been, you are asked to call the Dawson Creek RCMP at (250) 784-3700.
