The Prince Rupert RCMP responded to a serious ATV incident involving 1 man on Wantage Road last night.

On Friday September 30th, 2022 at approximately 19:55, the Prince Rupert Fire Department (PRFD) called the Prince Rupert RCMP and reported being on-scene with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) for a motor vehicle incident involving a 34-year-old man on an ATV.

As police arrived on-scene, BCEHS was leaving transporting the 34-year-old driver to the hospital. One member followed while others as well as PRFD remained on-scene to investigate. 2 friends of the victim were also on-scene and provided statements to police.

"Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be involved but it was determined that the driver of the ATV was not wearing a safety helmet. The ATV has been seized from the scene and will be undergoing mechanical inspection." said Cst. Gabriel Gravel, Media Relations Officer with the Prince Rupert RCMP.

The victim was subsequently airlifted to Vancouver by BCEHS, to be treated for serious injuries.

The Prince Rupert RCMP would like to remind off-road vehicle users of the importance of wearing appropriate protection equipment, including the mandatory safety helmet. Not doing so can result in a $138 fine or much worst, serious injuries.
