Oceanside RCMP News Release

The driver of a vehicle involved in a two-vehicle crash in Coombs Friday night has died.

On October 4, 2024 at 10:30 PM emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 4 near Kirk Road in Coombs. One of the vehicles involved in the crash was in flames upon arrival of first responders.

The preliminary investigation has determined that a Toyota Echo traveling toward Parksville on Highway 4 crossed the centre line of the two-lane highway and collided with a Ford Focus traveling toward Port Alberni. The Toyota Echo became engulfed in flames following the collision.

Unfortunately, the lone occupant of the Toyota Echo, a 31-year-old man from Parksville, died at the scene. The two occupants of the Ford Focus were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation into the exact cause(s) of the crash is being led by Oceanside RCMP and continues in collaboration with the RCMP’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroner Service. At this time, speed and impairment have not been excluded as potential cause(s) in this collision.
