Police thank public in apprehending suspect

Police have successfully apprehended a man after he fled from police mid-day and abandoned his vehicle in the centre of town.

On 1st July 2024 at approximately 12:00 pm a member of the Dawson Creek RCMP was making proactive patrols in the area of 102nd Avenue and 12th Street when a black sedan was spotted driving erratically. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however it fled at a high rate of speed, running a stop sign and a red light.

The vehicle was relocated a short distance later as it had been abandoned, still running at the entrance of the traffic circle at Alaska Ave and 8th Street. Multiple witnesses came forward and assisted police in successfully locating and arresting 46 year old Terrence Gibson, from Fort St John.

Terrence has been charged with Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Driving while Prohibited. Terrence also has a criminal record for possession of schedule substances, failure to comply with release orders, theft and possession of schedule substances for the purpose of trafficking. Police have applied to keep Terrence in custody but he was quickly released back into the community.

The Dawson Creek RCMP would like to thank members of the public who assisted police in alerting them to the freshly abandoned vehicle and assisted with locating Terrence.
