Fatal motor vehicle collision Mayne Island

On May 20, 2023, Outer Gulf Island RCMP received a report from BC Ambulance.
At approximately 9:45pm, their crew along with Mayne Island Fire Department were on scene at a single vehicle collision, with two fatalities
Outer Gulf members attended along with Detachment Commander Sgt Lee DYSON, who is a collision reconstructionist.
Sgt Dyson reported "Indications at scene, showed the vehicle was traveling Northwest on Merryman Drive.
"While rounding a left hand curve , the vehicle driver failed to negotiate the curve and went off the right side of the roadway". "Vehicle then went down into a ditch where it struck a tree".
Family members have been notified.
For the privacy of all involved the names of the deceased will not be released.
Speed and alcohol are suspected as contributing factors
Police will continue to investigate the cause of the collision along with the BC Coroner’s Service
