On Friday, March 24, 2023, at 2:28 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers were alerted to a 42-year-old Washington man in possession of a bow, arrows, and a hunting knife on a rural property in the 5000 block of Old Rossland-Cascade Highway, near Rossland, BC. The man was allegedly in the country without authorization, as he did not cross through a designated border station. Officers made contact with the man who fled into in the sparsely populated area.

Trail RCMP issued a media release that warned residents in the area to lock up their residences and secure their vehicles. A police operation was conducted in the area and located the man next to a campfire after an extensive search which involved RCMP Police Dog Services, Southeast District Containment Team and the Emergency Response Team. Officers took the man into custody without incident and he was held at the Trail Detachment.

On March 27, 2023, Canada Border Services Agency took custody of the 42-year-old Washington man and is conducting an investigation under the Immigration Act. Trail RCMP is not pursuing any criminal charges at this time.

On Saturday, March 27, 2023, at 5:16 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP members arrested a 35-year-old Trail man for breaching a condition of his Undertaking near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and McQuarrie Street, in Trail, BC. An officer conducted a search incidental to the man’s arrest and allegedly seized a bear spray canister, 88 grams of a substance suspected to be Ketamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and $3855.

The 35-year-old Trail man will make his first appearance in court on July 20, 2023, in Provincial Court, in Rossland, BC.

On Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 5:46 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report from a witness that a 5-year-old child was running away from her home in the 3000 block of Highway 3B, near Fruitvale, BC. The officer attended her residence and learnt from her parents that the young girl did not want to clean her room. She decided to run away instead but stopped and turn around at the end of her driveway after talking to the witness.

No update on whether or not she cleaned her room later that day. say Sgt. Wicentowich

File # 2023-1298

On Monday, March 27, 2023, at approximately 5:00 a.m. Trail and Greater District RCMP were notified that a 36-year-old Fruitvale woman with a single gunshot wound to her head was admitted into the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, in Trail, BC. A 39-year-old Nelson man had dropped her off and left the scene. Officers seized a vehicle related to the incident from the parking lot of the hospital. Officers located and arrested the man for a criminal offence in downtown Trail. The man was held police custody for the period of the initial investigation. He has since been release pending further investigation into the incident.

Trail RCMP would like to speak to any witnesses to this incident or with anyone who has information can contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

The man and woman were known to each other and this is believed to be an isolated incident between the couple. Our investigator will be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel for an assessment. says Sgt. Wicentowich
