National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day

Saturday, December 3, 2022 was National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day and also marked the start of the holiday’s season drinking and driving counter attack program.

This year, members of the Vanderhoof Detachment and North District British Columbia Highway Patrol teamed up in search of impaired drivers and other offences in the communities of Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and Fraser Lake.

Police conducted proactive patrols that resulted in the following:

• 9 violation tickets for speeding
• 2 violation tickets for other moving offences
• 4 written warnings for speeding
• 1 excessive speeding which resulted in a vehicle being impounded
• 1 driving prohibition being served

A check stop conducted west of Fraser Lake on Highway 16 saw approximately 25 vehicles come through, none of the drivers were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police would like to remind everyone to make plans to have designated drivers before heading out to take part in holiday festivities and that the police will continue to increase their efforts to detect and remove those that are driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Driving impaired could result in a 30 day impound of your vehicle, loss of your license for 90 days, a $500.00 fine or criminal charges.
