Surrey RCMP investigating criminal acts at South Surrey business district

Surrey RCMP is investigating criminal acts at a South Surrey business district that occurred between the evening of May 5, 2024 and morning of May 6, 2024.

On May 6, 2024 at approximately 6:00 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a suspicious fire at a restaurant in the 1700-block of King George Boulevard. Once on scene, officers assisted Surrey Fire Service who extinguished a fire outside the north-west area of the restaurant. There was damage to the building and there were no injuries reported.

A 27-year old female suspect was arrested nearby and was released on an Undertaking to appear in court at a later date, with possible charges pending related to mischief to property.

Two men have also been identified as persons of interest while the investigation continues.

When officers were on scene responding to the suspicious fire at the restaurant, business owners in the area reported three additional incidents including two attempted break and enters and a separate act of mischief which included a small fire near a garbage can in the area.

One business had their window smashed and another business had the lock to their front door tampered with. Thankfully entry was not gained into either of these businesses, says Sergeant Tammy Lobb, Media Relations Officer with Surrey RCMP. We understand these incidents can be frustrating for our business community and Surrey RCMP is committed to working with those impacted by crime by speaking with them about how to protect their stores and shops as we work to identify the suspects responsible, added Sgt. Lobb.

Surrey frontline officers have conduct of these investigations and are speaking with witnesses and canvassing the area for CCTV.
