Celebrating Volunteer Week 2024: Honouring the Heartbeat of Richmond

As National Volunteer Week approaches, Richmond RCMP takes immense pride in honouring the extraordinary dedication of our community volunteers. This year, from April 14 – 20, we celebrate the national theme of Every Moment Matters, by recognizing the exceptional contributions of 131 individuals who have provided over 5,347 volunteer hours to serve and safeguard our city.

In 2023, our volunteers have been instrumental in facilitating 701 community events and engagements. Richmond RCMP volunteer efforts include participation in Bike, Van and Foot Patrols, Block Watch, and educational outreach programs such as Child Passenger Safety Clinics. Volunteers provide crucial support to our Distracted Driver’s awareness and enforcement campaigns throughout the year and have also been vigilant eyes and ears through programs like Crime Watch, Fail to Stop and Speed Watch.

During Volunteer Week, we recognize not just the hours committed but the impact made. Whether it’s providing a sense of safety at city events like the Steveston Salmon Festival, Halloween Fireworks and Remembrance Day, or aiding in the recovery of stolen vehicles, our volunteers have been there, demonstrating their unwavering dedication and commitment.

The volunteer spirit is strong in Richmond, and our volunteers are a shining example of this, said Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan, Officer in Charge, Richmond RCMP. Their diverse contributions have not only enhanced our service delivery but have also helped keep our community vibrant and safe.

Richmond RCMP also celebrates the volunteer contributions our officers and employees make to their communities.

This Volunteer Week, let’s honor their dedication and encourage more citizens to take part in volunteer programs that strengthen the fabric of our community.

How to Volunteer with Richmond RCMP

If you are interested in becoming a Community Policing Office volunteer, we invite you to contact the City Centre Policing Office at 604-207-4761 during business hours, or e-mail richmond_volunteering@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Applicants must meet certain requirements, which include being at least 19 years of age, being responsible and of good character, and achieving the appropriate level of security clearance. Minimum volunteer commitment is 8 hours per month, with a minimum of one year with the program.

If you are interested in joining the new tiered Auxiliary Program please email richmond.auxiliary@rcmp-grc.gc.ca and we will invite you to an upcoming recruiting information session. Applicants must be least 19 years of age, able to obtain RCMP reliability status, possess a valid driver’s licence, perform a minimum of 180 hours of service per year, and commit to the program for at least two years.
