Burnaby RCMP is inviting members of the public to an upcoming car and booster seat safety initiative, happening by appointment on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Bonsor Recreation Centre in Burnaby.

For a child’s car seat or booster seat to be effective, it must be installed and used correctly, but parents and caregivers often remark that they can be complicated and intimidating to set up and adjust.

During the event, people with appointments will be able to have their car and booster seat set-up checked by certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Educators, including Burnaby RCMP officers and BCAA staff, who will work one-on-one with attendees during their personalized session to assist with installation, adjustments, and education.

The initiative is taking place in the south parking lot at Bonsor Recreation Centre from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Burnaby RCMP is asking attendees to pre-book appointments online. If you are interested, please send an email here.

Burnaby RCMP is encouraging families to bring their current car or booster seat, as well as their children, to their pre-booked appointment, as it will allow officers to ensure the seat is installed correctly with the child properly seated and strapped in. Most appointments are about one hour long.

This is Burnaby RCMP’s third-ever car and booster seat safety event.

We continue to receive positive feedback about how helpful these appointments can be for families, said Cst. Kevin Connolly, with Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services. We have had parents, grandparents, and other caregivers at our past events who have remarked how much they have learned, and how much more confident they feel with their car or booster seat after their appointment.
