Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement group takes part in ‘International Roadcheck’ safety initiative

From May 14 to 16 the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (LMDCVE) group, which includes representatives from agencies across the Lower Mainland, hosted commercial vehicle enforcement checks in Burnaby, New Westminster, Delta and Surrey as part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) ‘International Roadcheck’ initiative.

The CVSA’s International Roadcheck is an annual three-day event held across North America, where certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives focused on commercial vehicle safety. According to the CVSA, the initiative is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world.

"International Roadcheck is a high-profile enforcement initiative that allows us to not only promote the importance of commercial vehicle safety, but to also highlight our daily efforts in creating safer roads by identifying commercial vehicles that present hazards to road safety across the Lower Mainland, said Cst. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP’s designated Commercial Vehicle Inspector.

The combined three-day enforcement effort in the Lower Mainland resulted in:

• 120 Inspections
• 70 Commercial Motor Vehicles placed out of service
• 230 violations identified
• 69 Violation Tickets issued

These numbers reflect a team effort by the agencies from across the Lower Mainland which make up the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement group, Cst. Connolly added. We are committed to working together to create safer roads across the region through enforcement and education.
