File # 2022-40351

Burnaby RCMP is appealing to the public for information and dashcam video after a serious single vehicle collision near Marine Way and Byrne Road on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

First responders were called to the area after it was reported that a black 2021 Jeep Wrangler travelling eastbound on Marine Way west of Byrne road went off the road into a wooded area just before 8 a.m.

The three occupants of the Jeep were taken to hospital, with one of the passengers receiving significant injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing, but it’s believed the vehicle lost control then rolled over before coming to rest.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor, but police continue to look into other factors that may have contributed to the collision, including whether the winter weather and icy conditions may have played a role.

While this incident is still under investigation, Burnaby RCMP is urging all drivers to slow down and drive to road conditions as we continue to experience this cold weather, said Cpl. Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. Please slow down and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.

Police have conducted a video canvass in the area, but are appealing for any witnesses or drivers with dashcam to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. Please quote file number 22-40351.
