Constable Shaelyn Yang’s home detachment of Burnaby and the RCMP wish to the thank the public and first responders for their outpouring of support during this difficult time.
Your support has been sincerely felt since Cst. Yang lost her life in the line of duty on October 18, 2022 in Burnaby, BC.
While public seating will not be available inside the funeral venue at the Richmond Olympic Oval, there are a number of ways the public is invited to watch the funeral in real time. These include:
Livestream
The Regimental Funeral and ceremonial procession will be livestreamed on RCMPTV (YouTube) on Nov. 2, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m.
Broadcast
Local BC broadcasters (Global/BC1 and CTV Vancouver) will be airing all or portions of the funeral which starts at approximately 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on multiple broadcast platforms. Please consult your local listings.
Public viewing
The public is invited to attend a viewing of the funeral at the Willingdon Church at 4812 Willingdon Avenue. Seating capacity is 2,000 and there is parking for participants. The City of Burnaby is hosting this event.
Wear Red on November 2
If you wish to express your support and stand side-by-side to honour Cst. Shaelyn Yang, her family, friends and colleagues, the RCMP invites you to wear red on November 2, 2022, on the day of the funeral. You can share your photos on social media and use the hashtags #WearRedWednesday and #RCMPNeverForget.

There is no public area to leave flowers for Cst. Shaelyn Yang at the Richmond Oval venue. Alternatively, we encourage the public to wear red on Wednesday, Nov. 2, the day of the Regimental Funeral. We would also like to invite the public to share their photos on social media and tag @BurnabyRCMP @BCRCMP on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the #WearRedWednesday.
