Burnaby RCMP is investigating a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 1 that has sent one passenger to hospital with serious injuries.

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has assumed conduct of a collision on Highway 1 east of the Kensington on-ramp that has sent one passenger to hospital with significant injuries.

On Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 3:59 a.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers came upon a collision on Highway 1 east of the Kensington on ramp involving two vehicles. The driver of a Black 2009 Acura CSX was travelling east-bound on Highway 1 when it struck a Blue 2010 Audi A5 that had temporarily pulled over to park on the shoulder of the highway. The black Acura then struck a female passenger who had exited the blue Audi while she was standing on the roadway.

The 26-year-old female passenger was transported to hospital with serious and potentially life-altering injuries.

The driver of the black Acura remained on scene.

Our investigators have spoken to the parties involved, but are seeking any witnesses who may have observed the events leading up to the collision. Said Corporal Alexa Hodgins of the Burnaby RCMP. We are also seeking drivers who were travelling on Highway 1 near Kensington Avenue that have dash cam footage to please contact investigators. 

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team is working to determine the circumstances of the crash. Investigators are determining if speed, driver impairment and road conditions are potential factors in this collision.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who may have dash cam video while travelling on Highway 1 near the Kensington Avenue from 3:30 am to 4:30 am to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
