File # 22-14760
Burnaby RCMP would like to invite the public to an upcoming community outreach session in response to the fatal collision that happened on 11th Avenue in Burnaby on May 5, 2022.
We understand many people continue to be affected by this tragic incident and those who live and work in the area may have questions about community safety.
Please join the Burnaby RCMP between 6 p.m and 7 p.m on Thursday, May 12 at Edmonds Community Centre for a Burnaby Neighbourhood Incident Response Program (BNIRP) session.
During the session, police officers and civilian staff, including Burnaby RCMP’s Victim Services Unit, are available to speak with residents to discuss community concerns and to provide information and resources to those impacted.
The goal of this program is to meet directly with the community to ensure people are heard and connected with resources they may need, such as Victim Services. This is a significant and tragic incident with a profound community impact, and we want the local community to know supports are available,
said Insp. Kathy Hartwig, Burnaby RCMP’s Officer in Charge of Community Programs.
The discussion may address some of the following topics:
- How you are feeling about the recent traumatic event
- What tools, resources and programs are available through the Burnaby RCMP
- How to talk to others about what happened
- How to process traumatic incidents and deal with related anxiety
