The Burnaby RCMP 2021 Annual Report is now available.
As the Officer in Charge of Burnaby RCMP, I am pleased to present the Burnaby RCMP’s 2021
annual report. The information and data in this report represent the hard work and dedication of
the police officers and municipal employees who proudly serve Burnaby 365 days a year.
This report highlights significant successes, such as the work of our new gang enforcement team,
as well as some of the ongoing challenges facing Burnaby RCMP, such as the response to mental
health issues in our community and a troubling increase in child exploitation cases.
COVID-19 has continued to add challenges to our operations, and it’s been an ongoing priority
to keep our employees safe without sacrificing our policing response throughout the pandemic.
Our staff has continued to pivot to accommodate changing health orders and evolving health and
safety issues while maintaining public safety.
Burnaby RCMP has also closely monitored any impacts on crime caused by the pandemic,
including reported incidents of hate crimes, which remain a concern despite decreasing in 2021.
As we look ahead to 2022, I am committed to expanding our focus on diversity and inclusion and
continuing meaningful conversations with residents and stakeholders across Burnaby.
Burnaby RCMP’s commitment to public safety is unwavering. We thank the City of Burnaby and the
citizens we serve for their ongoing support.
