For two days, November 4 and 5, Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team (CRT), along with Transit Police, Metrotown Security and several loss prevention officers, executed the Boost and Bust Initiative to combat shoplifting at Metrotown. This was the second time this operation was conducted this year.

As a result of the initiative, 16 thieves were arrested for shoplifting and over $3,000 of property was recovered.

There were also 8 outstanding warrants executed as part of the initiative. These arrested included warrants from Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam and Transit police.

The team even located a high-risk missing person while in the area.

Added to the four-day Boost and Bust from earlier this year, a total of 43 offenders face new charges, 11 outstanding warrants were executed and over $7,800 worth of property was recovered.

This two-day enforcement in the Metrotown area not only thwarted would-be thieves, but the team was also able to arrest 8 people on outstanding warrants from throughout the Lower Mainland, said Corporal Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP. It was another win for community safety and law enforcement partnerships.
