File # 21-32271

On September 22, 2021 at around 10:40 a.m. Burnaby RCMP arrested one person involved in ongoing demonstrations in Burnaby.

The demonstrator was arrested after being safely removed from a tree-sit on private property owned by BNSF Railway in an area that violates a court ordered injunction stating they could not obstruct, impede, or otherwise prevent access to Trans Mountain work sites.

At around 8 a.m. the demonstrator was read a copy of the injunction and was given an opportunity to leave or face arrest. Despite being asked a number of times if he wanted to leave on his own, the demonstrator failed to do so and around 10:40 a.m. he was safely arrested and escorted from the tree-sit with the assistance of officers with specialized training in high-angle rescue.

Burnaby RCMP would like to take this moment to remind those who are involved in ongoing demonstrations that police are an impartial party and are there to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Demonstrators have a right to lawful, peaceful and safe protest and companies have a right to complete their work. Burnaby RCMP is working hard to ensure that these rights are protected and that all parties and the public are kept safe.
