COVID-19 Enforcement Update - March

To keep our community informed about enforcement actions through the COVID-19 pandemic, Burnaby RCMP is releasing monthly updates summarizing the actions of it’s COVID Compliance Enforcement Team (CCET) taken under the Emergency Program Act.

On March 14, 2021, CCET officers responded to a complaint of a party in the 6300-block of Kingsway. Upon attendance, police confirmed that only three of the eight people present lived in the residence. A $2,300 violation ticket was issued to the homeowner for hosting a non-compliant event.

On March 15, 2021, officers attended a business in the 4400-block of Hastings Street for a complaint of a man refusing to wear a mask inside the business. A $230 violation ticket was issued.

On March 15, 2021, officers responded to a report of a party in the 6900-block of Fredrick Avenue. Upon attendance, police confirmed that only one of the seven people present lived in the residence. A $2,300 violation ticket was issued to the homeowner for hosting a non-compliant event.

On March 20, 2021, CCET officers attended the 9300-block of Salish Court for a report of a party at a residence. There were ten people in the residence. A $2,300 violation ticket was issued for hosting a non-compliant event.

On March 20, 2021, CCET officers attended a residence in the 6300-block of Kingsway after receiving a complaint of an ongoing party. In January, police received a similar complaint for the same residence; however, the party had ended before police arrived. On this date, a $2,300 violation ticket was issued for hosting a non-compliant event.

On March 22, 2021, officers attended a business in the 4700-block of Kingsway after receiving a complaint of a man not wearing a mask. A $230 violation ticket was issued.

Burnaby RCMP’s COVID Compliance Enforcement Team and City of Burnaby bylaw officers continue to conduct regular patrols through businesses.

Burnaby RCMP first responders and CCET responded to a combined total of 40 complaints and issued 6 violation tickets in the month of March. This does not include the numerous proactive restaurant, lounge and business checks conducted by CCET.
