File # 2020-9289
A recent drug seizure by Burnaby RCMP’s Drug Section has resulted in disruption to a dial-a-dope drug trafficking operation in the City.
On Sunday March 1, 2020, at 8:30 p.m., a Drug Section officer was conducting proactive patrols in the 6500-block of Burlington Avenue. The officer noted a suspicious occupied vehicle that was located in a business loading bay in the area. With businesses being closed, the officer approached the vehicle and observed drug paraphernalia in clear view.
The three occupants of the vehicle were detained and a search on a male occupant in the vehicle produced 118 pre-packaged baggies of drugs including crack cocaine, powder cocaine and fentanyl. This quantity of drugs and the method of packaging is usually associated with a street level dial-a-dope drug trafficking operation.
A replica toy firearm and bear spray were also located in the vehicle. The items and drugs were seized and the investigation is continuing.
Disrupting drug traffickers, particularly those who are supplying deadly drugs such as fentanyl to people in our community continues to be a top priority for Burnaby Drug Section, says Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP.
Thanks to our Drug Section officer who relied on his instinct and experience these drugs are no longer on our streets.
No charges have yet been laid in relation to this investigation.
