Friday night vehicle collision on Island Highway claims one life

On November 25, 2022 emergency crews attended to a two vehicle collision in the 6000 block of Island Highway West in Qualicum Bay which has resulted in the death of one person.

At approximately 7:05 p.m., Oceanside RCMP, British Columbia Ambulance Service and Bow Horn Bay Fire Department were notified of a serious two vehicle collision on Island Highway West in Qualicum Bay.

The initial investigation has determined a Mazda MX3 traveling north on Island Highway West drifted across the centre line and collided with a southbound Pontiac Grand-Am. The lone occupant of the Mazda, a 31-year-old Bowser resident, died on scene and the lone occupant of the Pontiac was not injured.

"A definitive cause as to how or why the Mazda drifted into the oncoming lane has not yet been determined," says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.  "The investigation is ongoing in conjunction with an RCMP collision reconstructionist and the BC Coroners Service."
