For week of November 15-21, 2022

2022-5748/2022-5711 – Driver sobriety checks and impaired driving

On the evening of November 19, 2022, members set up a road check for driver sobriety, and checked about 50 cars. Members collected mandatory breath samples from numerous drivers, and all results were 0 readings – none of the drivers had liquor in their system and were okay to drive.

On November 17, 2022, a member was on patrol when he saw a speeding car. The member did a road check, suspected the driver had been drinking, and had them provide breath samples that indicated FAIL. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, the member issued the driver, from Quebec, a 90 day driving prohibition and impounded their car for 30 days.

2022-5746 – Mischief

In the early morning hours of November 19, 2022, a man who had been drinking smashed a window of a residence in the 9500 block of Emerald Dr. No one was home at the time, and the man went into the house to sleep. Unfortunately, the man didn’t have permission to be in the residence. Police arrested the man and released him once he was able to care for himself. Investigators continue following up, and thank the caller who was concerned about the man’s safety from the cold weather.

22-5730 Rental Scam

A local landlord has been entering rental contracts with renters by collecting damage deposits but then changing the terms of agreement and offering to return damage deposits if the new terms are not acceptable to the renter. When renters cancel the agreements for their money back, the landlord is not refunding the money. The landlord uses a popular buy & sell website to recruit would-be renters, and police have six complaints involving this landlord. Police anticipate the landlord to stop now that they’ve spoken with her, and are notifying the public will help inform future potential renters of this scam.

2022-5716 – Excessive speed

On November 17, 2022, a Sea to Sky Whistler Traffic member did a traffic stop after seeing a car speeding. The out-of-town new driver had been doing 110 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. As a result, the member impounded the driver’s car, and issued him an excessive speeding violation ticket.

Police ask anyone with any information regarding the above files to contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to the website www.solvecrime.ca
