Police advise public to avoid North Road near Cottonwood Avenue due to gas leak

Coquitlam RCMP is advising the public of potential road closures due to a gas leak within a residential neighbourhood.

Coquitlam RCMP Front-line officers attended the area of North Road and Cottonwood Avenue in Coquitlam shortly before 1:00 p.m. on October 31, 2022 in response to a gas leak near a construction site.

Police and the Coquitlam Fire Department are on scene.

Traffic will be impacted in the surrounding area of North Road, Clark Road and Cottonwood Avenue, with temporary road closures. The closures will remain in place for an undetermined amount of time while first responders remain on scene.

Coquitlam RCMP is requesting that the public follow the directions of first responders should they attend the area as part of their trick-or-treating route, said Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Alexa Hodgins.

Coquitlam RCMP, Coquitlam Fire Department and Fortis BC are working together to determine the cause of the leak.
