A man who was reported missing to police in May of 2020, has sadly been confirmed as deceased following the recent discovery of his remains.

On Sunday Feb. 25, 2024, around 3:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to an area near the Mission Flats landfill where skeletal remains had been located. As part of the investigation, which included consultation with the BC Coroners Service, the remains were identified as belonging to a 41-year-old man who was last seen on Feb. 19, 2020. No criminality is suspected in his death or disappearance.

A media release was issued by the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requesting public assistance in June of 2020, after police were notified of his disappearance and other efforts to locate him had been exhausted, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. We hope that his discovery brings some small amount of closure to those who have looked for him.

Police will not be releasing the man’s name in order to protect his privacy. His family has been notified and the original missing person’s media release will be removed from the Kamloops RCMP website.

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment offers its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
