Burnaby RCMP seeks dash cam footage, additional witnesses, after pedestrian struck by vehicle

Burnaby RCMP’s Traffic Services is investigating a single motor vehicle collision that sent a pedestrian to the hospital.

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian in the area of Imperial Street and Patterson Avenue.

The vehicle was travelling eastbound on Imperial Street at the intersection at Patterson Avenue when it veered onto the sidewalk and struck a 19-year-old male pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver remained at scene and spoke to police. Impaired driving has been ruled out.

The pedestrian remains in the hospital in serious condition.

If you witnessed the incident and have not spoken to police, our investigators would like to hear from you, said Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. If you have dash cam video in the area, we would also like to speak to you.

Police are asking anyone that witnessed the incident or may have dash cam footage in the area of Patterson Avenue and Imperial Street between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to please contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2023-15026.
