Background:
On January 31, 2025, at approximately 9:42 p.m., the Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a fight outside the John B Pub located at 1000 Austin Avenue. Bystanders acted quickly by providing First Aid and CPR to a man who was suffering from life-threatening injuries. First responders attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 35-year-old man died from his injuries on scene.
Two men believed to be involved in the fight were arrested and are currently in police custody.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and continue to work closely in partnership with the Coquitlam RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to process the crime scene.
Update:
On February 1, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against 32-year-old Timothy Vansnick. He is under a provincial court detention order and his next court appearance is on March 3, 2025.
The other man who was arrested has been released without charges at this time. The investigation continues and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
We would like to thank the staff and patrons at the pub who rendered their assistance and did the right thing by cooperating with the police,
says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. Their quick-thinking and willingness to help led to a swift arrest.
