On April 27, 2024 a Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) officer was conducting routine patrols on Highway 91 Westbound when he observed a commercial vehicle with large trees loaded on the flatdeck. The officer pulled behind the vehicle and noted the load did not appear to be secured.
The RSU officer subsequently conducted a traffic stop and commercial vehicle inspection. During the inspection three alleged violations were identified:
- Driver Operates Commercial or Business Vehicle without Proper Equipment or with Insecure Cargo - BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (MVAR) $288.00
- Load or Projection over 1.2 m in rear without red flag or cloth – BC MVAR $ 109.00
- Fail to Comply with Trip Inspection Requirements – BC MVAR $ 138.00
The driver was issued a violation ticket for the three Motor Vehicle Act Regulation offences totaling $ 535.00. In addition, points under the National Safety Code were attached to the company.
It’s essential that commercial vehicle operators educate themselves on the requirements of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations governing commercial operators. To learn more about the current rules and regulations for commercial vehicle operators visit the BC Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement website.
Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit is reminding all commercial vehicle operators to ensure you properly secure your load and to ensure you know your legal requirements before you hit the road. Let’s work together to make our roadways safer for all users.
