During the first week of August, 2023, officers with BC Highway Patrol – Dawson Creek were busy keeping local highways safe through targeted enforcement of dangerous driving behaviours. BCHP impounded 9 vehicles over the course of five days, including 5 impaired drivers and 4 vehicles for excessive speed in and around the Dawson Creek area.
One of these stops resulted in the driver attempting to flee the scene, but he was quickly apprehended. A search subsequent to the arrest revealed that the driver was in possession of 52 grams of illicit drugs including suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl. The driver now faces multiple charges including prohibited driving, impaired driving, obstruction, and possession of a drug for the purpose of trafficking.
BC Highway Patrol would like to remind road users that officers will be conducting enhanced road check activities in anticipation of the Dawson Creek Fair during the upcoming weekend. If you partake in the festivities, please do so responsibly and arrange for a sober driver, taxi or transit.
