File # 2023-32698

Burnaby RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects in a theft and assault with a weapon that occurred at Metrotown Mall last week.

On Sunday, September 17, just before 4:30 p.m., Burnaby frontline officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in progress at Metrotown Mall, where a security guard had been pepper sprayed while attempting to intervene. When police arrived, the two male suspects had already fled the scene.

The assault occurred after the two suspects stole approximately $10,000 worth of sunglasses from a business in the mall.

Two men in a mall. One man wearing a dark LA Dodgers baseball hat, white medical mask, white bomber jacket with a Chicago Bulls crest and black pants. The second male wearing a dark baseball hat with a red logo, a grey jacket and a dark shirt with the word Chicago and number 23 on the front of it.

The first suspect (theft and assault) is pictured below and was wearing:

A man wearing glasses, a white medical mask, dark LA Dodgers baseball hat and a white bomber jacket. A man walking to the right wearing a dark LA Dodgers baseball hat, white medical mask, white bomber jacket, black pants and dark shoes. A man facing the camera, wearing a dark LA Dodgers baseball hat, white medical mask, white bomber jacket with a Chicago Bulls crest, black pants and dark shoes.

The second suspect (involved in the theft) is pictured below and was wearing:

A man standing wearing a dark baseball hat with a red logo, a grey jacket and a dark shirt with the word Chicago and number 23 on the front of it, carrying a black back pack in his right hand. A man walking toward the camera, wearing a dark baseball hat with a red logo (the logo looks white as the light shines on it), a grey jacket and a dark shirt with the word Chicago and number 23 on the front of it, carrying a black back pack in his right hand.

Everyone has the right to feel safe at work and this includes security guards, said Cpl Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. We need your help identifying the individuals responsible for this assault and theft.

Police are asking anyone who may be able to identify either suspect in the photos above to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. If they wish to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Quote file 2023-32698.
