File # 2018-28926

Burnaby RCMP continue to investigate a hit and run which occurred this morning at Willingdon Avenue and Parker Street in Burnaby.

On July 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. a Burnaby RCMP member on foot attempted to stop a vehicle as the driver appeared to be using an electronic device behind the wheel. The police officer signalled for the driver to pull over, the driver failed to do so and struck the officer with his vehicle. The suspect was last seen headed south on Willingdon Avenue.

The officer suffered a broken arm and remains in hospital at this time.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect and the vehicle which is a grey Dodge Nitro SUV. The suspect driver is described as a south Asian male, heavy build with a shaved head. He was wearing a white t-shirt, grey sweatpants and has a tattoo on his left arm.

Incidents like this show the danger our officers face each and every day as they perform their duties in the City of Burnaby, says Superintendent Chuck McDonald of Burnaby RCMP. What started as a traffic stop has left one of our members injured, we’d ask that the driver of the vehicle that struck this officer to do the right thing and contact police.

Anyone with information on the suspect or suspect vehicle is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604 646 9999.

Burnaby RCMP Operations Officer Superintendent Chuck McDonald will be available for comment to media at 3 p.m. outside Burnaby RCMP detachment at 6355 Deer Lake Avenue.
